The numerous letters that Luigi and Maria exchanged bore
witness to the importance they gave to dialogue, which continued
even when they were physically apart.
They were aware that dialogue is not only about communicating
daily matters, but also about communicating one’s inner feelings:
ideals, expectations, hopes.
«Of course it was a pain for me to give you that dry chronicle
while I had an infinity of sensations, of very sweet and at the same
time painful thoughts, which I felt for you and without you» .

With these words, Maria described their desire for harmony:
«Only from the communication of souls, from the communion between
them cemented by faith, is unity born and lives - from which you can
no longer isolate yourself and without which it is torture to live» .
