tHe meetinG
The friendship between the Corsini and Quattrocchi families
allowed the two to meet. Luigi was a young and brilliant law student;
Maria studied at the school of commerce, she studied piano and read
the classics. Their friendship was born on common cultural interests.
tHe turninG point
A serious illness, which ended in peritonitis, brought young
Luigi close to death and Maria, as she herself would say, prayed
a great deal for him. This was the opportunity for her to open her
heart to God. In her despair, she sent Luigi a picture of Our Lady of
Pompeii, accompanied by these words: «This is the picture before
which I have prayed and implored so much for your health. Kiss it
every evening and every morning and always keep it with you. May
the Lord and the Blessed Virgin bless you and your family» .

After 47 years, when Luigi passed away, this small image was
found jealously guarded in his wallet.
