• Let’s reflect on the time we spend at work.
• Do we have any strong footholds to defend our family time?
• Are there any choices we could make to live work time and
our family time in a more balanced manner?
EVERYDAY LIFE OF THE MARTIN FAMILY
5. attention toWards otHers
Even though they had a large family, they still tried to help
those in need: «On our way back, we met a poor old man who looked
like a nice person, good-natured. I sent Teresa to bring him a small
offering, he seemed so moved and thankful that I understood that he
was probably very unhappy. I told him to follow us, and that I would
give him some shoes. We gave him a good meal: he was starving. [...]
I told him to come whenever he wanted and that he would receive
bread. [...] This meeting made me very sad, I can’t help thinking about
the good man who however looked very happy for the little money I
gave him. [...] As he ate, he took his shoes in his hand, looked at them
happily and smiled at them» .

• In a not-so-easy family situation to manage, there is no lack of
attention to others, knowing how to look past the domestic walls and
always being willing to open the door of one’ s home.
• Let’s look around: is there someone, right now, who would
like a glance from us, our attention, a bit of our time? For example: a
relative, a neighbor, a colleague or a friend?
