«On the Bernardini’s golden wedding anniversary, on May 11,
1963, Sergio confessed to his children gathered around their parents:
“You don’t know how many nights your Mother spent crying because
you were far away!”
Every time they were separated due to the departure of their
missionary children, the pain was always the same, as if it were always
the first time they said goodbye to each other. So Domenica found
no greater comfort than raising her hands to heaven and repeating
a phrase that had become habitual: “Thy will be done, Lord...”. In
an effort to suppress her tears, she added: “his will of God must be
done...” and she would stare for a long time, motionless, towards the
direction in which her children had gone» .
