CONCRETE INSTRUMENTS OF HOLINESS
The fixed points of the Bernardini family

             1. daily prayer

«In the morning, Sergio and Domenica used to say their prayers
together before getting up. [...] And in the evening, after a day of hard
work, we would gather to recite the rosary, which would lead us to
discuss the events of the day and the things to be done the next day» .
                                                                       35
Particularly during the years of his old age, Sergio often went to
Church and spent hours in prayer there. To his daughter, who asked
him, «What do you do there, for so long?» He would answer, «But
don’t you understand? It’s my most important meeting of the day,
it’s the time when I listen to the Lord and talk to Him about many
things about the Church and the world, especially about my numerous
spiritual children and grandchildren» . (Sergio)
                                           36

«After having listened to the Word of God, we must remain in
recollection and welcome it within ourselves, if we want it to truly CONCRETE INSTRUMENTS OF HOLINESS
bring us the Lord’s message for our lives» . (Domenica)
                                               37

             ideas For reFlection

Prayer filled Sergio and Domenica’s days. Let us dwell on some
aspects, which come to us from their own reflections:
             • Prayer is the most important meeting of the day
             • Prayer is the possibility to be “one-on-one” with God, to speak
to Him not only about ourselves, but also about our loved ones and our
        brothers and sisters.
             • It is necessary to take time to allow the Word to enter our hearts
and become that particular message that God wants to give us at this
moment of our lives, on this day.
What concrete commitments could we make?
