LAURA BUSCA OTAEGUI
(1918-2000)

Laura was born in Zumárraga (Spain) on November 3, 1918.
She was the youngest of six siblings and everyone called her “Laurita”.
Her family was very well known and respected in the village and
Laura was soon noticed for her good qualities.

Her education

Laura had a strong personality and from a young age she made
some courageous choices; she decided to continue her studies until she
graduated in Pharmacy and enrolled in a doctorate program. «In her
day, only 5% of women had an education like hers» . While studying

in Madrid, she stayed at the Institución Libre de Enseñanza, a place
that embraced modern ideas of that period and where Laura met the
greatest names in 20th Century Spanish culture. The environment
was not overtly against God, but it was indifferent to Him, and young
Laura’s faith started to weaken.
