TAKASHI NAGAI
(1908-1951)
The first of 5 children, Takashi Nagai was born on February
3, 1908, in Matsue (Japan), in a family of doctors.

They were the years in which Japan, after reopening to the
West, began the race towards modernization and progress. Takashi
was fascinated by the rampant atheist and positivist culture, which
promised new horizons and led many Japanese to distance themselves
from their millenary traditions.

It is only in the presence of his dying mother that Takashi stops
in Nagasaki, he was attracted by the Christian message and wanted
to understand it better. He decided to ask for hospitality in a family
in the north of the city, in the district of Urakami, known to be a
Christian town.
