ENGAGEMENT, MATRIMONY
AND CHILDREN
tHe War
In January 1933, when they had just met, Takashi had to
leave for Hiroshima, called to fight in the war against China. The
night before his departure, Midori knocked on his door, dressed in a
kimono, bowed and gave him a sweater she had made, as a thank you
for saving her life. ENGAGEMENT, MATRIMONY AND CHILDREN
tHe Work oF God
Midori entrusted Takashi to Mary every day by praying the
Rosary. She wrote to him often and sent him a copy of the Catechism.
War was a terrible experience, but in the pages of the Catechism
Takashi found the answer to many questions about the meaning of
life. Reading the 10 Commandments made him feel mistaken about
many of the choices he had made, but the Lord began to make His
way into his heart.
tHe conversion
The war left a deep scar in young Takashi, who, though
disoriented, realized that the Gospel was not understood through
study, but through life experience.
