It was August 9, 1945, Takashi was on guard in the radiology
bunker, Midori was at home, and the children were out of town
with their grandparents. The second atomic bomb was dropped on
Nagasaki, and the district of Urakami was the epicenter. Midori was
swept away by the explosion and when Takashi managed to return
home, he found only ashes, a few charred fragments of his wife and
her rosary of melted beads.
