THE PROCESS OF BEATIFICATION AND CANONIZATION

1957 - 1960: the diocesan phase of the processes of beatification
of the Servants of God Louis Martin and Azélie Guérin.
1971: the two causes proceed as one when they are discussed
before the Congregation for the Causes of Saints.
26 March 1994: the couple of Servants of God, with the
recognition of the heroic virtues, is proclaimed venerable by John
Paul II.
2003: the study of the miracle attributed to their intercession is
opened.
19 October 2008: Zélie and Louis Martin are proclaimed
blessed.

Pietro Schilirò was born in Monza (Italy) on May 25, 2002.
A week after his birth, he was baptized urgently, because doctors THE PROCESS OF BEATIFICATION AND CANONIZATION
believed he was in danger of dying. «Father Antonio Sangalli - says
his mother Adele - the Carmelite who was following us as a spiritual
father and to whom we had asked to celebrate the Baptism, entrusted
us with the image of the Martins that he had found by chance while
looking for the book of the Baptism rite. After two days the result of
the biopsy arrived: Peter could live a few hours or a few days. We
went home and prayed the rosary with friends, then talked about the
funeral.» But during that night of silence something happened: «We
changed our outlook. First we were resigned, then we told ourselves
that we were making a mistake, that we were accepting that science
could have the last word. But if we are children of a good Father,
the Lord of life, with the freedom of children we could ask for grace,
trusting what the Lord wanted to do». In their request, the Schilirò’s
were not alone: they began to distribute the image of the Martins
to everyone, relatives, friends, parishioners, even non-believing
neighbors.
