THE SECOND MIRACLE 6

Carmen, a small girl from Valencia (Spain), was born on
October 15, 2008, after 28 weeks of a very difficult pregnancy. At the
hospital, the parents were told: «prepare for the worst». Complications,
frequent in a premature baby, multiplied: respiratory difficulties, heart
problems, brain hemorrhaging at the most advanced stage. Carmen’s
father entered the Church of a Carmel to pray. At the end of November,
the case seemed desperate. For the first time, the mom was able to
touch her baby in the incubator. The family began to discuss her burial.
On November 23, the Prioress of the Carmel gave the parents
the Prayer to Louis and Zélie. They did not know them at all, nor
did they know their daughter, Saint Therese of the Child Jesus. The
next day, a providential hospital transfer took place. Contrary to all
expectations, Carmen endured it; the infection was eliminated. She
began her recovery and was discharged on January 2, 2009.
A serious concern remained: brain hemorrhaging dilated the
child’s skull and caused her to suffer. An examination was scheduled
for February 19. It would probably be necessary to operate. Again they
asked for the Martins’ intercession. A few days later, the ultrasound
revealed that the brain hemorrhaging had disappeared, only the scars
remained and, what was even more surprising (the doctors were still
unable to explain it), was the total absence of neurological or motorial
consequences. CANONIZZAZIONE
On March 18, 2015, Pope Francis authorized the recognition of CANONIZATION
the miracle of little Carmen’s healing, attributed to the intercession of
Blessed Louis and Zélie Martin.

CANONIZATION

18 October 2015: Louis and Zélie Martin are proclaimed saints
by Pope Francis.
