On January 23, 1965, the two of them got married. They loved
each other, but Cyprien was unable to heal from the wound caused
by the death of Xavérine, his previous fiancée and this put a strain on
their relationship.
tHe First tWo cHildren
Daphrose got pregnant immediately, but little Joseph was born
prematurely; he was baptized just before he died.
In 1967 Olivier, the second son, was born.

It is not infrequent, especially in rural areas, that a woman is
accused of practicing witchcraft and being responsible for bereavement
and misfortune. False accusations of witchcraft fell upon Daphrose
and lead Cyprien to repudiate her, taking her back to her family. The
son, who in Rwandan culture belonged to his father, remained with
him. Daphrose knew she was innocent. The humiliation and suffering
she felt were immense.
