BIOGRAPHY

SERGIO BERNARDINI
(1882 – 1966)

Sergio was born in Sassoguidano (Italy) on May 20, 1882, into
a profoundly Christian family.
The Document of his Cause of Beatification and Canonization
opened with these words:
«Blessed are all those who fear the Lord, and who walk in His
way» (Ps 128:1).
«The words of the psalmist are well matched to the Servant of
God, Sergio Bernardini, who throughout his life, as a husband and
family man, followed the Lord, glorifying Him in all his actions» .

As often was the case in small mountain communities, it
was the parish priest who acted as the schoolteacher when pastoral
commitments allowed him to do so. Sergio, for his part, had already
begun to help the family run the mill when he was eight years old and
attended classes only when he could.

With his mother, Sergio remembered walking every Sunday
the three kilometers and steep climb that led them to the Church.
They would go there in the morning, for Holy Mass and return in the
afternoon, for the Rosary, the Blessing and Catechism.
