(1889 - 1971)

Domenica was born in Verica, Italy, on April 12, 1889.
The Document of the Cause of Beatification and Canonization opened
with these words:
«When one finds a worthy wife, her value is far beyond pearls. Her
husband, entrusting his heart to her, has an unfailing prize». (Prov 31:10-11).

Her personality

Her personality brought her to be cheerful, exuberant and outgoing:
«When I was young I was always cheerful: I was always telling and listening
to jokes, I liked to laugh, I used to fill everything around me with songs and

laughter» .

Human and spiritual development

She belonged to a family of small farmers, honest and very religious,
of whom she herself writes: «they taught me to pray and attend Church, to be
sincere and to do good to others. My mother set an example for me and so did
my father» .

God took From me
When she was 20 years old, she got engaged to a young man who,
however, after a few months, died of an incurable disease. Domenica spent
weeks of great despair and only faith in God sustained her and allowed her to
look to the future with hope.

God’s answer was not long in coming and she began to see Sergio, a
young man who had recently returned from America. «Yes, he was a widower... BIOGRAPHY
but he immediately seemed so kind. People spoke highly of him and he had
suffered a lot, you could tell. His eyes showed great kindness and peacefulness,
full of faith. I immediately sensed admiration and veneration for him, because
he knew how to bear his sufferings with such dignity. I immediately prayed
and decided: Yes, Lord, if it is Your will. Then give me many children and, if
it pleases You, consecrate them to You» .
