The healing of a patient 16

A 61-year-old patient arrived at the Hesperia Hospital in
Modena, Italy, in critical condition. He was operated on and had a
tumor removed from his heart, a very rare disease that gives very
little hope of survival. After the operation, the patient was transferred
to the intensive care unit in such desperate conditions that he received
the Anointing of the Sick from a Capuchin friar, a friend of the family.
The Friar continued to visit him over the next few days. After about
a week, the patient’s condition inexplicably stabilized and slowly
improved. The surgeon who operated on him noticed that the Friar
often rummaged behind his pillow and he remembered this when,
years later, he received a phone call from that patient, cured from a
lymphosarcoma of the heart. They meet for dinner with the Capuchin
friar, who revealed to them that when he passed by he made sure that
under the pillow there was always the image of his parents: Sergio
and Domenica Bernardini.

Healing of Zeno Canovi 17

«Being a believer, in the morning and in the evening I thank the
Lord for the day granted to me and in this thanksgiving there is always
a prayer for the Bernardini spouses, because I believe that I have
received a grace from them». These are the words of Zeno Canovi,
who in 2004 was suddenly struck by a serious cerebral hemorrhage.
Hospitalized, the pain in his head was unbearable but the position of
the hematoma did not allow surgery. Sebastiano Bernardini went to CANONIZZAZIONE
visit him, leaving him his parents’ spiritual booklet. Zeno read a few
sentences from it, then prayed with the book in his hands, asking for
help and protection. He prayed all night and cannot explain why he FAVORS
had the distinct sensation that the book warmed up and communicated
warmth to him. The pain in his head slowly decreased, and the
hemorrhage began to subside. Zeno is grateful to the Virgin Mary
and to the Bernardinis, from whom he believes he has been graced.
