In 1963, they decided to offer part of their modest retirement
money to pay for the studies of a Nigerian seminarian in Rome.
This gift would be rewarded “a hundredfold”: Felix Abe Job would
become a priest in 1966, and in 1971 he would be consecrated Bishop
ENGAGEMENT, MATRIMONY AND CHILDREN
of Ibadan in Nigeria.
tHe domestic cHurcH
A large family meant working diligently, both in the fields as
well as in the house, but this did not prevent Sergio and Domenica from
starting the day with prayer, stopping at noon to recite the Angelus
and ending the evening reciting the rosary. Sunday was always lived
in a festive atmosphere, between home and Church: Holy Mass and
services in the afternoon, festive clothes, special lunch and in the
evening they played games and joked around.
In 1963 Sergio and Domenica celebrated their golden wedding
anniversary, in the joy of seeing the whole family exceptionally all
gathered together.
