Then a three-year period began in which Sergio went through
the “night of the spirit”: «He, a man of God, very faithful, now feared

His WiFe’s support durinG tHe most diFFicult time
Domenica supported him with great love, words and gestures
inspired by faith. On October 12, 1966, she was at his side in the ENGAGEMENT, MATRIMONY AND CHILDREN
moment he passed away. These are the words she wrote to her
daughter, Sister Agata, a missionary in Australia: «In the end he took
three very deep breaths and looked up smiling happily, in an ‘Oh’ of
wonder and he breathed his last breath. I had hoped that he might be
consoled by Our Lady’s presence, and this was a sign that reassured
me greatly» .

respect For tHe dauGHters’ Families
Having become a widow, Domenica moved to Modena where
her daughters, Paola and Maria, did their best to take care of their
mother with a care that became devotion. Both had their own families
and Domenica was very careful not to take away anything from them,
neither their space nor their time.
