«Ulisse tackled his office work as a response to a vocation that
required him to be constantly at the service of others. The seriousness
with which he faced his work led him to refuse all the opportunities
of which he could have taken advantage in order to overcome the
economic difficulties of his family: every “gift” that arrived as a sign
of thanks for a completed task was decisively refused» .

tHe Force From tHe eucHarist
His son Joseph recalled that «passing in front of a Church and
entering was [...] the most natural thing. The presence of Jesus in
any Church was as if He were awaiting our greeting. We looked at
the Tabernacle, surrounded by lights and flowers, and we understood
that it hid a mystery that we had to adore, it attracted us and we could
not overlook it» .

«So then the atmosphere was always peaceful within those
walls? Certainly not, especially when the children – all very lively
– quarreled among themselves as is inevitable in any normal family.
But this was another occasion to teach mutual respect and peaceful
coexistence: in the evening, before the common prayer, the quarrels
were forgotten and the contenders made peace» .
